Castlemaine's emerging singer-songwriter and composer Maya Rose is back with new single 'Time', lifted from her forthcoming debut EP of the same name.
Heavy with eerie piano loops, delectably sparse electronic production and Maya's haunting vocals, 'Time' pounds with a slow-burn of R&B, soul magic that's sure to catch your attention. Something akin to a Vera Blue-Billie Eilish love child if you need an audio reference.
"I wrote this song about the aspects of time – the past, present and future – and how they pull our lives in different directions," Maya says.
"I worked with Aman Bayatly [Adrian Eagle] who produced the track. I wanted to incorporate percussion that sounded like a clock and also industrial sounds of a train, so it felt like there was movement within the song relating back to the lyrics 'time will take us there’ and ‘wanna go back’.
"'Time' is about romanticising the past or fantasising the future, but knowing that what I really need is to be in the present. Time moves so fast, it's important to reach out for what you want before the opportunities have gone."
Ahead of a show this weekend in Melbourne and the EP launch in her home town later in August, scenestr is stoked to premiere the video clip for 'Time' today.
"In the music video, the piano room scenes represent my inner self – the place I create and contemplate – thinking back to the past and forward to hopes and dreams," Maya says.
"The outdoor scenes represent the big feeling of the song. The age of rocks, trees and open spaces connecting to the expanse of time."
