Australian singer-songwriter Margaret Anne follows up her debut single, 2019's 'Soul Laid Bare', with 'Don't Look Back' – a song she wrote two months after leaving her marriage of twenty years.
Co-written with country artist Shane Nicholson at The Dag Sheep Station in Nundle, near Tamworth, Margaret was able to peel back the many layers of emotion surrounding the breakdown of her marriage – from the struggle to get it right, to the decision to move on and not look back. The song once again features Margaret's regular collaborator, Doug Weaver aka The Rock It Man who produced and played not one but all of instruments on the song.
'Don't Look Back' is also accompanied by a music video that captures the essence of escaping to the open road, cut with flashbacks of old Super 8 footage of Margaret Anne at the age of 3 through to the end of the marriage.
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (28 Aug), scenestr is stoked to premiere the 'Don't Look Back' music video today. Enjoy.
"Filming was a challenge and a laugh in itself," Margaret says.
"The borrowed coupe wouldn't start for the planned Sea Cliff Bridge sunrise shots, the wind proved quite wild for the drone, and I battled a sea kayak in a choppy sea with no rudder, then got completely drenched by a sneaky wave bursting up onto the rock platform.
"During the lily pond filming, a snake slithered out of the water and up a tree next to me, making it rather hard to play the guitar at that point!"
