British-born songstress Lucy Gallant has crafted a loyal following throughout Queensland and northern NSW for her Bohemian-seasoned rootsy folk music.
After the release of previous single 'Heaven' at the end of last year and touring across North Queensland, Lucy's next chapter is titled 'Love'.Heartfelt, old-timey, homely, rustic vocals that pierce the soul, Lucy's 'Love' features a country-flavoured folk melody soaked in the warmth and fuzzy, gooey feels attached to feeling in love. Yet it also captures the yearning feeling of wanting that love reciprocated.
ARIA-winning producer Govinda Doyle (Tones And I, Angus & Julia Stone) recorded and mixed 'Love' after requesting to be part of the project after seeing a live version of 'Love' on Facebook.
After releasing 'Love' on Friday, scenestr is thrilled to premiere the 'Love' music video today. Enjoy.
"It sounds so cliche but it was Valentine's Day 2016 and I was looking into the eyes of the man I thought I would spend the rest of my life with," begins Lucy, detailing the origins of the writing of 'Love'.
"I knew in my heart that he loved me but he was too wounded and afraid to let down his guard and say those sweet, yet terrifying four letters that create the word that makes the world go round.
"I could feel his intense yearning to be vulnerable but his conditioning would not allow it. This was the fork in the road. We couldn't move forward together without a mutual declaration of love, and so, it ended.
"Whilst wrestling with the hurt from this heartbreak I took to the streets of Byron Bay to busk and as I was singing my heart out playing on the street, the song 'Love' just flowed out of me.
"I wrote it on the spot and as I sang the lyrics, I could feel it healing the pain in my heart. The song is about overcoming the fear of feeling exposed after sharing my deepest feelings with the one I loved. It's about needing that person to clearly affirm that the feeling of love is mutual.
"At that moment, a man stopped and as he listened to me play the song he started crying and then dropped $100 in my guitar case whilst saying 'thank you so much I needed to hear that song'. Since then I have had such an amazing response every time I play this song live."
The video, which was recorded by Chris Mitchell-Clare from Mitchell-Clare Productions, is also dedicated to Lucy's mother Wendy, who passed away in 2019; the clip was filmed at Wendy's house (shortly before it was sold) that was named 'The Warm Place'.
"She had an excellent eye for colour and interior design as you can see in how she created the house, it's a work of art!
"I'm so happy we captured the vibrant beauty of the house, as it was sold shortly after the video was made.
"It's sad to say goodbye to Mum's sanctuary, but at least this video will keep 'The Warm Place' alive forever. I love you mum, I hope I make you proud."
