Queensland singer-songwriter, Leonie Kingdom presents her first single of the year, the aptly titled '2020' – a lush indie nod to this year of unpredictability.
The simplistic nature of the lyrics – that range from dead cars, getting lost in the city, to the awkward approach for a stray cigarette – paired with 'upbeat production' allows the 'sad' song to share a light-hearted look at the chaos this year has wrought."It magnifies all the 'non-event' things that went wrong this year while subtly ignoring the elephant in the room that is the global pandemic," Leonie says.
"This is not your ordinary 'sad' song, the upbeat production married with pitiful lyrics give the overall song a lighthearted feel."
Co-written and produced by Hein Cooper and Jarryd Shuker, the Hervey Bay musician linked up with animator apricotbanana to provide visuals for the official video for '2020', which scenestr is pumped to premiere today. Enjoy.
"We knew that the comedic animation would match the upbeat sound," adds Leonie, discussing the creative direction of the music video, "leaving the perfect balance of laughter while feeling sorry for animated Leonie."
