Kyle Jenkins' debut single is titled 'Wire'.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Australian visual artist, musician, and songwriter, plus frontman for country-rock outfit Suicide Swans, Kyle Jenkins is about to embark on a solo path with the release tomorrow (24 August) of his debut single 'Wire'.

It's a jangly box of musical all-sorts filled with shimmering indie-folk rock and songwriting that paints a vivid image in the mind's eye. And that thumping guitar riff as a backbone. Think a hybrid of Gomez, Arctic Monkeys and The Go-Betweens. It's solid and well-worth your ear's attention. Both of them in fact.

And Kyle is so keen to share his new music with you, he's given scenestr the accompanying video for 'Wire' to debut today. Wicked good, hey.

"The song is about the excitement and trauma of being an artist and attempting to create something whether it's music or painting etc. and that everything you create in some ways is flawed," Kyle says.

"The song is perverse in the sense that it has two protagonists: the first is the artist speaking to the artwork trying to convince it that they have created something wonderful (even though they don't believe it); then the second protagonist is the artwork speaking back to the artist disappointed in their decisions because of the way they have turned out.

"The video was filmed at First Coat Studios in Toowoomba and the individuals in the video are all artists, so the footage mirrors both the artists working in their studios trying to make work while I essentially bug them as this flawed figure that sits over their collective shoulders.

"The finish of the video I wanted to be deteriorated like a VHS tape that resembles a painting both representational and abstract - again, harking back to the those behind the song."

'Wire' is the first glimpse into the dynamic array of reflections that is 'Meltdown', Kyle's debut solo album that is coming later this year.
