"One day I woke up and I realised that I had played my whole life in the safe sone," Sullivan says.
"Sure, I'd done some exciting things and pushed a few boundaries, but I didn't rock the boat. I went with the flow.
"'Against The Tide' is about having the courage to embrace who you truly are and what you value, while finding your voice and standing up for what you believe in.
"People hear this song and have told me it has been the catalyst for them to also get out of their safe zone and think, 'I'm going to have a go too, what have I got to lose?'"
Kevin has filmed an accompanying music video for 'Against The Tide'.
While the lyrical content tackles a serious issue, the clip is a playful insight into Kevin's past – working with the bomb squad and as a forensic crime scene investigator in the aftermath of some of Australia's most high-profile crimes and incidents.
scenestr is stoked to premiere the 'Against The Tide' music video today. Enjoy.
The video was filmed at Sydney Props Marrickville with Bruce Dawson and the Tribal Apes team. "I love that Bruce and I have created a video that adds another dimension to the song," Kevin says.
"It's quite fun and eclectic, and not what you're expecting."
Kevin and his family, wife Belinda and three young children, are about to embark on a 'Sulli-Van' tour around Australia for seven months, bringing his music to a host of communities thanks to SUNLAND Caravans.
"COVID-19 and lockdown has taught us the importance of time with family, home schooling, togetherness and enjoying the moment," Sullivan says.
"I embraced social media during isolation, playing my music from our home, with my children joining me on a few songs – bringing joy and happiness to so many people.
"With restrictions lifting, the 'Sulli-Vans' are excited to be taking our music to the communities and towns across the country."
