Pulsating, bouncy, throbbing electro-pop that bursts with an intoxicating energy, emerging pop artist Kevin Silvester has collaborated with fellow Melburnian pop-R&B singer-songwriter JVCQUI on his newest single 'Be The One'.
A song about dealing with the emotional fallout that occurs when infidelity enters a relationship and subsequent fighting, 'Be The One' was originally written in 2021 after the pair had first become friends, discussing kinks at a local RSL."The song is about the extensive insecurities that one may face as a result of their partner's infidelity," JVCQUI says.
"Upon writing the song, neither of us had actually been in the situation before, until a few months later; both Kevin and I were experiencing our first teenage heartbreaks, so I channelled my emotions while recording.
"Also, random fun fact, we were both dating guys named Christian."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (10 March), scenestr is thrilled to premiere the 'Be The One' music video today. It features Kevin and JVCQUI portraying a fighting couple. Enjoy.
The fourth single released from Kevin's forthcoming debut album 'Sleepwalker', the pair employed 'gang' vocals to complete the song when Melbourne lockdowns only allowed them to communicate digitally and via phone.
The vocal layers feature Kevin and JVCQUI imitating the likes of Britney Spears, Olivia Rodrigo and Momo from TWICE.
"I had heard about this trick that they use to create huge gang vocal layering, where you record yourself sounding like as many different people as possible to create a 'crowd' effect," Kevin says.
"So JVCQUI and I had fun with it and decided to mockingly imitate funny celebrity voices to create the vocal layering in the chorus.
"The layers were absolutely hilarious on their own, but when put together, it sounds like a powerfully desperate crowd chant."
To promote 'Be The One', Kevin will play a series of unannounced headline shows in Melbourne, featuring JVCQUI as well as SHARL, Vital Mode and others.
