A New Zealand expat living in Melbourne for the previous 13 years, Kerryn Fields latest music video, 'St Kilda Pier', celebrates the togetherness and diversity of the indie music scene as well as the relationships that glue everything together.
Taken from her 2021 album 'Water', 'St Kilda Pier' is an alt. country song about the melancholy of a relationship breakdown that also highlights the optimism that can arise from facing new challenges."The theme of the single is of a relationship breaking down, which in itself is nothing to celebrate but there is certainly a sense of hope that comes with that for what could be around the corner," Fields says.
It's a similar theme faced by the entire music industry during the COVID years; watching the scene grind to a halt as opportunities to perform evaporated almost instantaneously, but then marvelling as green shoots began to appear after many months of inactivity as the character of indie artists everywhere to press on and make art sparks new creative life.
It's that positivity and joyous relief that Kerryn wanted to capture for the music video for 'St Kilda Pier', and what better setting than filming the action from the recent 2022 Reclink Cup.
scenestr is thrilled to premiere the 'St Kilda Pier' music video today. Enjoy.
The video highlights all the fun and fanfare of the annual Media vs Musos grudge match that raises much-needed funds for Reclink Australia, who provide evidence-based community sports and arts programmes to disadvantaged Australians.
"For me to film this at The Reclink Cup was the obvious choice as it's a wonderful celebration of the music community in Melbourne," Kerryn says.
"Reclink is a charity that is near and dear to my heart, they do such important work with vulnerable people in our community and the Reclink Cup is just such a fun day so I wanted to celebrate them with this clip."
