Brisbane gothic new wave, rock artist Kelpie is back with his first new music of 2022 with 'Tangled Moon' continuing his appreciation of The Cure and Nick Cave.
Bright, spacious instrumentation opens the song, before the new wave rhythm slinkily wraps itself around your ears as Kelpie's sorrowful yet brooding vocals explore the intricate dance between love and suffering, celebrating both as teachers. The solo project of Ros Feratu, scenestr is amped to premiere the music video for 'Tangled Moon' today. Enjoy.
The video transports the domestic environment into a fantasy-scape of the mind, replicating the imagination housed within the skull. The house represents a psychic state, where every object takes on symbolic meaning.
"The shooting was a strange and surreal couple of late nights shooting with friends, smoke machines, lights, fire and gin," Kelpie says.
Ros had been eyeing off an old wooden table for months for inclusion in the clip. "I really want this f...ing table on fire for the video," he told director Nila Vanwolf.
"It ended up working perfectly to symbolise how unchecked passion and pain can ruin romance." Though there was a small issue: "The grass caught on fire while filming."
However, the filming process did uncover a happy coincidence. "The spider at the end was a happy accident, which was great because now all three Kelpie clips feature a little critter.
"The first video had a dragonfly, the second a lizard."
