Sydney's self-described lone wolf, DIY punk rocker Jovi Skyler's brooding grunge swagger returns on his newest single 'Rumble'.

Recently adding bass guitar to his skillset, 'Rumble' is easily Jovi's most accessible song to date, a grunge-Britpop flavoured belter with a sing-along chorus reminiscent of late '90s college radio and the Seattle grunge movement.

Distorted yet jangly guitars that clash with a sweltering intensity to the scorching rhythm section (that flexes like jungle cat ready to pounce) 'Rumble' retains Skyler's grating, sonically harsh soundscape. Yet there's still a melodious rhythm contained within 'Rumble' that bounces with youthful exuberance but showcases a maturity of Jovi's instrumentation.

Jovi's nasally vocals provide an authoritative tone as he spills forth dissident, rebellious lyrics commanding one to embrace their imperfections, to lean into their individuality.

"'Rumble' deals with the obscure, confronting yourself to be perfectly imperfect, to shrug your shoulders and detach yourself, to embrace the good and bad in life without the pain consuming you," Jovi says.

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (9 August), today scenestr is stoked to premiere the 'Rumble' music video, another DIY project by Skyler that sees him enter the world of 'Twin Peaks'. Enjoy.

"I tried to gel footage for 'Twin Peaks' in an entertaining way with the song's performance segments that complemented the track's grunge aesthetic," shares Jovi, discussing the creative direction of the music video.

"Hopefully, it makes you think of Seattle's '90s grunge iconography in its cloudy effects and Lynch references. . . I don't think it's a direct takeaway from Kurt Cobain.

"'Rumble' is a mix of some garage-esque guitars, raw production and a bite of that classic '90s grunge-rock sound with a strong and vulnerable message behind it.

"I tried to curate the visuals to match the chugging tempos and searing drum patterns. The vocals were done in one take after a sleepless night. I learned the bass guitar during the session on a strict diet of canned baked beans and champagne."
