Sydney's alternative rocker, Jovi Skyler is back with another aggressive serving of bruised, frenetic DIY punk-rock that oozes angst out of every pore.
Add a hazy yet melodic hook, abstract lyrics and a hint of psychedelia, and Skyler has created an anthem worthy of any teenager's rebellious spirit."'Got It Wrong' zeroes in on the angst and struggles of adolescence that builds up to rebellion and self-revolution," shares Jovi. "I like to think it captures that '90s style richness.
"I wanted to create a sort of dark anthem," adds Skyler. "For me at least, a song comes from the gut, otherwise it sounds fake.
"I like abstract lyrics that paint a picture and keep a listener engaged, rather than just spewing out directly what I feel."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (29 April), scenestr is pumped to premiere the music video for 'Got It Wrong' today. Enjoy.
For the creative aesthetic of the clip, Jovi again revisited his love of all things '90s. "I paired and recoloured the performance with the classic clips, to give it the same edge as the track.
"I initially wanted to use 'Looking For Alibrandi' for the music video, but felt 'Heathers' would be more accommodating to that wild, glam-rock look I was hoping to achieve."
As for what the rest of the 2022 entails creatively, Jovi says: "I definitely want to record some new songs.
"Lugging around my own amplifier and guitar does not motivate me the slightest right now, but perhaps it will later.
"I'm working on another clip at the moment, and would like to release another single sometime this year."
