Australian indie pop singer-songwriter, Jessie-May Kitchen has created a LOTR-styled music video for her song 'Calm In The Eye Of The Storm' (from her 2020 EP 'Zone Out').
An artist based on the Central Coast, the song's background began from a place of turmoil. "'Calm In The Eye Of The Storm' was a song I wrote to and about myself when healing from recent trauma and abuse in 2017," begins Jessie-May."My life has been incredibly challenging since I can remember, but one thing I've learnt is that you never give up. Sometimes things are going to be unimaginably, immensely, suffocatingly difficult, but you have a choice.
"You aren't the things that have happened to you. You are whoever you choose to be. I discovered the spirituality of the lotus flower online. I found a quote that really spoke to me: 'Even when placed in the dirtiest of waters, the lotus produces the most beautiful flower. I am strong and I will succeed, no matter what happens to me.'"
When it came time to start storyboarding the music video, Jessie-May returned to worlds that had allowed her an element of escapism in the past.
"The period in my life the song was written, movies such as 'The Hobbit' and 'Lord Of The Rings' helped me heal during dark times. Elven folk and quotes from Samwise Gamgee such as: 'There is good in this world Mr. Frodo and it's worth fighting for', are seared onto my heart more than I had even realised."
scenestr is amped to premiere the 'Calm In The Eye Of The Storm' music video. Enjoy.
"The production of the video was an enormous, team effort," adds Jessie-May, "and without Robert C. Morton and Drew Bontoft's cinematography expertise, Trang Nguyen and Emily's beautiful, artistic creativity/ make-up talents and Faith Miller, Kaleb Miller, Scotia, Evie and Reigan's acting skills, I would be streaming adventure movies on Netflix, instead of having wonderfully captured my own. I can never thank you enough!"
