Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Australian hip hop artist Imcpayne (aka C-Payne) draws from a blend of influences – Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Tupac, A Tribe Called Quest, Mac Miller, ASAP Rocky, Joey Badass and Earl Sweatshirt – to create his fresh-sounding flows.

Imcpayne kicked off 2018 with the release of single and music video 'Therapy'.

His latest track is 'Where's My Head At', which he releases tomorrow (25 May) but not before he shares the single's accompanying video with scenestr to premiere today.

"I'm a '90s kid. I was raised on boom bap and when rappers actually rapped, so it felt right to give something back to the culture and inspire from the people that helped shape me as a person," Imcpayne says about the new track.

"I'm inspired from the likes of De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and Jurassic 5 mainly on this one. When I made the beat, they were heavily in mind, although I did want to change the style and put some more relative sounds with an electro flavour in the mix of it all to make it my own take of boom bap in 2018; lyrically and musically I wanted it to be old-school with some new-age flavour."

Creating the song's video clip came from a similar place. "The music video was exactly the same, inspired by the '90s hip hop culture, and to be authentic and real to myself.

"My videographer Blake Kirby and I had the vision of a '90s underground hip hop music vid combined with some aspects from where I'm from in Sydney and of course Guy Fawkes."

The Sydney-based musician started writing at the ripe age of nine. He then started rapping at age 18 and has spent the past years honing his craft throughout his local scene.

He recently teamed with producer Michael McGlynn (L-FRESH The Lion, Little May) of Vienna People to record his debut EP.
