Premiere: Watch Gavin Bowles & The Distractions' New Music Video 'On The Telephone (I Used To Call You)'

Gavin Bowles & The Distractions are an indie rock band from Sydney.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Zesty power-pop that bursts with a fun, rambunctious energy that takes hold of your senses from the first note, Gavin Bowles & The Distractions' newest release is 'On The Telephone (I Used To Call You)'.

A track that harks back to old-school romance when contacting your 'crush' usually required a landline call that would involve speaking to their parents initially, 'On The Telephone' is a fun and flirty sonic romp.

"I'd recently found an old rotary phone from an op-shop and it made me think of how 'back in the day' you had to call your crush over the landline (and their parents would probably answer first!)," shares Gavin, "rather than texting etc, and how there was this fanfare about it all – it was exciting, nerve-wracking and endearing."

The video clip maintains the riotous energy of the song as the lads are captured working in a call centre.

"We shot the film clip a few weeks back with our mate Tom Roberts on a 38-degree day in a small studio in Chippendale with no air con," explains Gavin.

"Tom is a fantastic director, always a pleasure to work with and has such a great style (he did some clips for my solo record and other groups we've been in).

"Also our friend Josh makes an appearance – possibly the highlight of the clip!"

Ahead of the music video's release, scenestr is thrilled to premiere the 'On The Telephone (I Used To Call You)' clip today. Enjoy.

The lads wanted to retain the playful, jovial nature of the song with the aesthetics of the video and Gavin had the perfect idea for the setting.

"We wanted the clip to be fun and light-hearted, like the song. Having just quit a fairly dull desk job myself, I thought the idea of us working in a call centre would be fitting and a little tongue-in-cheek too!"

Those who stick 'round to the end of the track will be rewarded with a funny 'where are they now' moment for each band member.

After a number of support dates with Kingswood earlier this year, Gavin Bowles & The Distractions have upcoming headlining shows in Newcastle, Sydney and Melbourne.
