Like Air collaborated with Bjork and added a touch of Fever Ray to the mix, New Zealand's French For Rabbits newest release is the dreamy, poetic 'The Overflow'.
The track paints anxiety and panic attacks in a positive light as frontwoman Brooke Singer contemplates the tug-of-war familiar to many creatives battling the need to create with the necessity of self-care to maintain a healthy balance. "Nobody needs to hear about the admin of an indie musician, but I can tell you – it could be a mountain higher than Everest if you let it," explains Singer.
"At times, I've found myself on the edge of burnout and having panic attacks. . . I dream of living in a cabin by a river, with a dog and fireplace and a simple life with friends around for dinner.
"But I'm also filled to the brim with ideas for projects, new songs and new challenges."
scenestr is excited to premiere the music video for 'The Overflow' today, which was filmed by Bill Bycroft (The Naked & Famous) and edited by Singer. Enjoy.
'The Overflow' was co-produced by Singer, Ben Lemi and Jol Mulholland, with recording and production taking place between The Surgery, The Lab and Massey University in New Zealand.
With a resume that has seen them release three albums, tour the US and Europe and open for acts like Lorde and Agnes Obel (not to mention their music appearing in multiple TV shows including 'Vampire Diaries'), French For Rabbits maintain their DIY ethos that has seen them emerge alongside indie folk-pop NZ contemporaries Marlon Williams, Aldous Harding and Tiny Ruins.
