Perth electronic duo Fourth State Turiya (Leah Miche and Edoardo Moriconi) are enjoying an increased interest in their music, with regular triple j airplay, a WAM Song Of The Year nomination as well as supporting Montaigne earlier this year.
Now they are ready to unveil their latest release, 'Flourish' which is the title track of their debut EP that is out next week (23 September) on all platforms.
Performing live with vintage synthesisers and custom vocal effects, Fourth State Turiya produce simple yet expansive landscapes with infectious melodies with soaring vocals - think a mash-up of Portishead meets Massive Attack with layers of Bonobo and Sbtrkt.
"'Flourish' is the most recently written track on the EP and we chose it as the title for its interesting, dynamic qualities and energy," the duo says.
"It's the first song we introduced live vocal looping to using Abelton Live. The vocal loop 'Amaram Hum Madhurum Hum' is an Indian mantra sung in Sanskrit, which translates to 'I am immortal, I am bliss'. The song is about meditation and how it opens you up to a whole, new perspective and understanding of life and self."
Today, scenestr is stoked to premiere the accompanying video for 'Flourish' which features a haunting black and white clip featuring what appears to be a 'possessed' dancer.
"The video clip was filmed and edited by Edwin Sitt and choreographed by Rhiana Katz. Rhiana was the dancer in our last video clip ‘Lost In Dreams’. . . we love her work and this footage for 'Flourish' was taken from her thesis assignment.
"We thought the footage was a perfect fit for the track as the dancer Ana Music does an amazing job of displaying beauty, distress, enchantment and awkwardness in a stunning natural setting."
