Tomorrow heralds the release of the debut single from Melbourne-based band Firetail.
Titled 'Bamboo' and featuring Canadian singer-songwriter Meiwa, Firetail describe their style of music as spanning '1970s jazz-fusion to South Indian carnatic music and Melbourne share-house filth'. Epic."This is a tune about the irresistible urges we face as well as the transformations that we go through," Jamie McElhinney, the group's bassist, says. "The spark that started the flame of collaboration between Firetail and Meiwa began at a hairdresser's and led to the studio."
Formed in 2018 as a collaborative recording project, the band has developed an ambient approach to creating their music.
'Bamboo' is a jazzy concoction of noodling brass rhythms, jungle beats, sizzling electric guitar melded to a boiling-fresh rhythm section. Add a mid-song breakdown and with Meiwa's enchanting vocals leading you to the dance floor.
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow, scenestr is stoked to premiere the accompanying music video for 'Bamboo' today. Enjoy.
"We pretty much gave our mate and animation wizard James Thompson free rein," Jamie says. "All the direction he got from us was 'we want it to have moths and be trippy as hell'." Mission accomplished.
