A singer-songwriter from Sydney, Em George's newest release is the beautifully articulate 'Home', an emotive slow-burn banger ideal to bask in your own feels.
Ethereal dark pop shaded in melancholic, brooding alt-folk tones and lyrics that muse about sharing yourself with others but not to the detriment of your own creativity and self-worth, 'Home' is a spell-binding sonic journey from an emerging artist who captives from the first note. There's the gorgeous, sublime instrumentation (especially the piano) as well layered with heartfelt emotion that hits you right in the centre of your emotional being. 'Home' is the sort of song you instantly transport to your happy place, to play whenever 'life' is getting too much.
"My favourite thing about music is it connects you to a feeling or experience," begins Em. "I hope people listen to this song and relate to what I'm writing about and feel connected to those around them.
"I had been feeling really down, hurt by a lot of people and was wondering why. I was also working and creating at full speed without any down time for myself and was exhausted.
"I realised I'd been letting people in who I shouldn't and overextending myself to please others.
"The song is about creating boundaries for yourself, to not exhaust yourself for others and protect a space within yourself to create, grow and be at peace.
"It's also about being accountable, and realising that you attract what you seek."
With 'Home' released last month, scenestr is ecstatic to premiere the song's music video today. Enjoy.
"I wanted to make a video that I really loved and was a little bonkers," shares George.
"The music video for 'Home' was influenced by a lot of surrealist photography and artists like Man Ray. Madonna's clip for 'Vogue' was a big reference too.
"The director, Sam McAdam-Cooper, and I love a lot of the same art and films and we really got each other's references so it was such a fun collab. She's brilliant and had the same vision for the shoot and created this little world for it."
