Western Australia grunge hard rockers, Electric State's newest release is 'Fed By The Algorithm', a song that rails against the onslaught of digital information we consume as a society.
With heavy riffs and a groove intent on destruction, and lyrics demanding "where's our freedom", Electric State are on the front foot swinging hard to escape the prying eyes of social media."'FBTA' is about being fed and bombarded online material by whatever narrative, being good or evil," the band says.
"The story has a 'Clockwork Orange' feel, with the chorus lyrics 'you gotta get out of here' really pushing the need to escape from being fed online information.
"Don't believe what you see and hear – it could be all lies. The song is about trying to break free from the grip of social media and be your own person."
The band worked with Passing Storm Productions to create a music video for 'Fed By The Algorithm' that scenestr is amped to premiere today. Enjoy.
"The production crew from Passing Storm Productions – Kaliegh Lux, Matthew Green, and Nathan Davey – are amazing to work with," the band says.
"It's 'Clockwork Orange' meets 'The Matrix'," adds the Passing Storm Productions crew. "A guy wakes up in an abandoned warehouse strapped to a chair in front of a massive wall of TV screens.
"The screens are bombarding him with negative imagery and propaganda, and he has no choice but to watch the horrors unfolding before him.
"As a filmmaker, when your source material has such a strong message, really half the job is already done for you. 'Fed By The Algorithm' is about the overconsumption of media, so we just took that idea and ran with it."
Winners of both the Most Popular Live Act and Most Popular New Act at the 2020 WAM Awards, Electric State will launch their new debut album 'Green Machine' (which features 'Fed By The Algorithm') with a home-town show at Amplifier Bar (Perth) 29 January.
