Premiere: Watch East Capri's New Music Video 'Wake n Redux'

East Capri are an alternative rock band from Brisbane.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Brisbane alt rockers East Capri are wrapping up the promotion of their debut EP, 2021's 'Wake n Repeat', by revisiting the title track with Joshua O'Donnell of Banks Arcade.

The new rendition, titled 'Wake n Redux', features a post-apocalyptic-theme wrapped around East Capri's electro-pop vision.

Sonically, 'Wake n Redux' fits somewhere in the territory of My Chemical Romance and Pierce The Veil with strong hints of Dresden Dolls' dark cabaret.

A genre fluidity sees the track journey through alt rock, industrial, and poppier hardcore flavours before a couple of trap-inspired breakdowns and rap solos (from Joshua) add bite to 'Wake n Redux'.

"This was a really fun track for us. We started out as a heavy alternative band. It wasn't originally the plan but it just turned out that way," vocalist Eden Cartwright says.

"We've been really influenced by dark, gritty pop artists and bands out there like Twenty One Pilots and Gorillaz, so we decided to make something special out of this song and hope people like it."

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow, scenestr is thrilled to premiere the 'Wake n Redux' music video today. Enjoy.

For the clip, the band – Eden (vocals), Jackson Deasy (guitar, producer), Jamal Irlam (guitar) and Alex Reichelt (drums) – teamed with Mitch Chamberlain (Between You And Me, Bukowski) who directed, filmed and edited the music video.

"It was a pretty massive shoot hey!" says Jackson. "From set up to pack up was about 15 hours, but there were definitely a lot of good times along the way.

"Like this one scene where we pretty much recreate a how-to-basic-video just destroying food in the kitchen haha!"

As for the collaboration with Josh of Banks Arcade, that came via a cheeky IG request. "We're pretty big fans of Josh's band Banks Arcade and we were really looking for a rapper with a specific sound," shares Eden.

"Now, I saw a story on his IG of him improvising these crazy bars and had to tell Jackson that this is our guy, haha!

"So we pitched him the song and to our shock, he really wanted to be a part of it and we are so happy with how it turned out. He absolutely killed it!"

With no more live shows planned for 2022, East Capri are focused on spending plenty of band time together in the studio recording new material that'll see the light of day in 2023. They also have another music video in the works, to coincide with a release in the new year.
