Premiere: Watch Darcy Kate's New Music Video 'Run Away'

Darcy Kate is an indie pop, folk, blues singer-songwriter from Sunshine Coast.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

First arriving on the scene in late 2020 with her debut single, the richly textured 'Last Train To Frankston', Sunshine Coast singer-songwriter Darcy Kate follows up with 'Run Away' – a song originally inspired by Bruce Springsteen's 'Born To Run'.

A bluesy-pop burner rich in roots-country melodies and a storytelling prowess that evokes an instant connection to the song's themes of freedom and passion, fans of Jewel, Sarah McLachlan and Fleetwood Mac will engage with Darcy's 'Run Away'.

"I have always enjoyed listening to Bruce Springsteen's music, and while driving to work was inspired by his song 'Born To Run' – I wondered what the female character (Wendy) in the song was thinking, and later that day imagined her story.

"They seemed to be two lovers escaping their day jobs and going on an adventure. It had been a difficult time in my life, and I came home from work that day and wrote 'Run Away'.

"This song is a story about a couple pursuing their dreams together, with Bruce Springsteen and Wendy as a metaphor for their relationship. It is very much a song about freedom and passion."

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (30 July), scenestr is amped to premiere the music video for 'Run Away' today. Enjoy.

"I recorded 'Run Away' at Yama-Nui Studio on the Sunshine Coast with the talented Steve Summers from Stonewax Productions," adds Darcy.

"Yama Nui is home to ARIA Award-winning producer and musicians Paulie B (George, Ziggy Alberts, Bobby Alu)and OJ Howard (John Butler Trio, T H U M P, Band Of Frequencies, Afro Dizzi Act).

"Recording this song was just so much fun. The inspiration for this track really came from listening to Bruce Springsteen's 'Born To Run' while driving, but I know that I would have been influenced by musicians like Lady Antebellum and Australian artists like Mark Seymour.

"Oh and the song was originally called 'My Bruce Springsteen', but I decided to change it at the last minute while uploading to the distributor."

With her debut album recorded and to be released 'in the not too distant future', Darcy's next gig is at Lefty's Music Hall (Brisbane) 30 October.
