Melbourne pop-punks Danger Den are back with a new slice of sonic exuberance they've titled 'Daisy'.
The answer to what would Rick Springfield's 'Jessie's Girl' sound like as a pop-punk anthem in 2025, the quintet have delivered in spades. It's punchy, yet joyful, the song's carefreeness intoxicating.
Lyrically built around a true story of two colleagues competing for the affections of an effortlessly cool woman named Daisy, the track is a tangled tale of office romance gone sideways.
A gleaming yet staunch guitar hook that glitters with early 2000s pop-punk attitude, the drums come in strong, a driving force throughout the song that never let up, the bass maintaining the lively rhythm.
Duel vocals give a peanut butter-chocolate flavour, equal parts sweet and tangy. Showcasing an ability to morph into ska territory, out of nowhere the song transforms into a psych-laced roots breakdown (like Tash Sultana gatecrashed the studio with Madness).
The vocals slow down for a campfire-like sing-along with a call and response of no-no-noooss, oh-ohh-ohhs, na-na-nas and aw-aw-awwws, the song exploding back to life with one, final assault of jubilant pop-punk. It's catchy. It's anthemic. You'll find yourself bopping along humming the melody gleefully.
"'Daisy' is basically the new and improved pop-punk version of the song 'Jessie's Girl' by Rick Springfield, and is also the first ever pop-punk song to feature a reggae bridge section," declares Danger Den.
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (22 Augus), today scenestr is thrilled to premiere the 'Dasiy' music video. Enjoy.
"Originally we wanted to do an office themed music video," adds the band, "but we couldn't find any office spaces that we liked or suited the vibe, so we ditched that idea and filmed at Heaviside Studio in Port Melbourne instead.
"I'm glad we chose Heaviside Studio because we did something different and also a little more creative and fun." Fans of New Found Glory, Boys Like Girls, All Time Low, and Blink-182 will find themselves hitting repeat.
Danger Den support KittyHawks' concert at The Leadbeater (Melbourne) on 12 September. "We're back at The Leadbeater in Richmond to celebrate the 50th gig of the legendary Melbourne ska punk band Kittyhawks! 🐱🦅🔥."
