Premiere: Watch Connor Mac's New Music Video 'See Through'

Connor Mac is an expat New Zealand pop artist living in Switzerland.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A New Zealand expat whose made Switzerland his home since he was 17 years old, singer-songwriter Connor Mac's latest release is the achingly charming, gorgeously quaint single 'See Through'.

Soul-flecked pop that's soaked in emotive-drenched lyrics and Connor's earthy and at times pleading vocals that feature hints of Chris Martin, 'See Through' follows his earlier 2022 single 'Purpose'.

"'See Through' is an emotive anthem to compel the listener to take confidence in themselves," shares Mac.

"It's to send a message to look into all of our self-doubts as to our own worth, whether we wear that on the surface or bury it deep within, tackling the theme of anxiety and support – an uplifting song, that aims to give confidence to people suffering from low self-esteem.

"The lyrics are spoken personally from one individual in a relationship to another, and in this age of increasing social and emotional exposure they are words nearly everyone can relate to in some way."

With 'See Through' released last week, scenestr is thrilled to premiere the song's music video today. Enjoy.

"Our initial storyboard for the music video was a lot different to the final result," Connor says, discussing the creative treatment for the clip.

"We had planned to shoot in the summer with a vision of having a girl in the video, and we wanted to play on the theme of light that resonates strongly in the lyrics.

"COVID hit and our plans were delayed through to the winter when Taine Noble (NZ film director) could finally get over to Switzerland to shoot.

"At this stage of the pandemic getting an actress was not a possibility. We shot the video with one camera in freezing cold conditions. . . in fact it was so cold that the camera kept turning off and the possibility of a corrupted memory card kept us anxious.

"We had a great time in the process despite this though. . . we loved the challenge. Taine worked his magic and somehow, we pulled it off.

"We were as resourceful as we could be at a time when you couldn't lean on anyone else for help. I am so pleased with the result."
