Today, Australian hip hop artist Calski drops his newest studio album 'Athletes' (available across all digital platforms).
Written during a two-year sabbatical following the birth of his first child, 'Athletes' plays like a marathon. Less about pace and more about distance, it is a step into slower tempos and more reflective themes compared to Calski's previous work.
One of the standout tracks is 'Victory', with Calski teaming up with Hau, the duo reconnecting after the success of 2015's 'Just Clap'. Hau's vocals gladly take you to a higher place on the soulful, smooth groove.
Always the humble player, Hau shares his experience on what it means to be a winner and how to share the spoils of success. "'Victory' began during house-sitting at DJ Bacon’s joint," Calski says.
"Sitting in his studio going through some records while my daughter was having a nap, I found a gospel album and chopped up some keys, vocals and got the groove happening with the 'victory' vocal sample in it.
"I thought it could be a cool concept so emailed it to Hau. He nailed it. He took the verses to a really cool place by unpacking his ideas on 'Victory' and how to share the winnings."
Scenestr is pumped to be able to share the premiere of the video clip for 'Victory' with you today.
"The animated lyric video is produced by Jozzelle from Ellephant Studios," adds Calski. "She's really talented. I gave her a brief, which was basically cruising in an old '80s car that bounces to the beat. She did the rest. Very talented!"
Stay tuned for our upcoming interview with Calski, landing later this month.
