Ahead of the release of his new album 'Echo Lodge' on Friday (26 February), Melbourne singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ben Wright Smith has filmed a music video for his newest single 'New Breeze'.
Hazy, chilled folk layered over crisp yet charming indie pop tones and Ben's magnificent voice that vibes a MGMT-Beck lovechild, 'New Breeze' finds Ben in a creative purple patch."When I wrote 'New Breeze', I was thinking of making a simple folk song. We somehow ended up with a spooky sci-fi space waltz."
The accompanying video clip features a couple who are on the verge of an argument when a giant, bluish-white marshmallow-like giant head bursts through a wall and begins serenading the duo.
The terrified couple quickly forget their differences as they try to escape the 'cute' clutches of the arm-less giant head.
scenestr is stoked to premiere the 'New Breeze' music video today. Enjoy.
"We filmed the video at my house with my good friends Rhys Mitchell and Maria Angelico," Ben says. "The director of the video, Josh Dawson, is also a great friend of ours.
"When we first came up with the idea, we couldn't stop laughing at how dumb it was. Basically we trashed my place with leaf blowers and tried to imagine a floating head chasing everyone around."
'New Breeze' is the first of three new tracks that will feature on the 'Echo Lodge' album – the final instalment of a trilogy of releases (2018's 'Psychotropical' EP and 2020's 'Volcano God Head Explodes' EP).
Ben Wright Smith plays The Bridge Hotel (Castlemaine) 28 February and Brewers Feast at Abbotsford Convent (Melbourne) 17 April. He also supports The Sockettes at Northcote Social Club (Melbourne) 25 February.
