Brisbane-Gold Coast all-female punk band Being Jane Lane are keeping themselves busy writing and recording their debut album.
In a recent interview with scenestr, the group's singer Teigan told us much of this year has been devoted to producing the new album while building the band's national profile. "This year we've been working hard on our album," Teigan says.
"We've been putting gigs to the side a little bit and just focussing on writing and putting the album together."
The first taste of that album is the delicious new single 'Next Step', a punchy party-punk rumble that sits somewhere between The Donnas and Hole.
scenestr is primed to premiere the lyric video for 'Next Step' today ahead of the song's official release via Spotify tomorrow (28 September).
"'Next Step' came together over a few months as we have been developing the new album," Being Jane Lane says. "We had the basic structure for a while but over time it's evolved through the live shows.
"We wanted to make something super punchy and fun, and capture the energy of the track on the recording.
"We are influenced by and loving the sounds from heavy bands like Clowns and Pagan and boisterous punk like Flangipanis; also diggin' on some R&B and old-school '90s jams.
"'Next Step' is the first single from the new album we have coming out early next year on Human Records, so we are keen to play some good shows, jump on some festivals and do some touring – just get out and play really; the live shows are a large part of why we do this."
As the year dwindles towards its inexorable end, Being Jane Lane will find themselves on the VB Hard Yards Tour in early October, after being voted in by a torrent of their supporters. "It feels warm and fuzzy and very nice," Teigan says.
