After taking an extended break from making music back in 2016 to focus on writing his debut novel, Brisbane musician Alex Edwards returns to his singer-songwriter roots releasing his newest single 'Hello'.
Currently working on a new EP titled 'Fealty Fjords' that he plans to release later in 2021, 'Hello' features the vocals of Kira Mikheeva, singer of Moscow rock band The BlueStocking (who Alex first connected with when he was living in Russia). The song also continues Alex's fascination with sci-fi themes and aliens; he's currently producing a feature-length animation about a musician with schizophrenia who hallucinates gods, goddesses and aliens that's based on his award-winning short story 'The Psychotic Mind'.
"I think the song 'Hello' represents that pining for interstellar contact," begins Alex.
"I'm going through an aliens phase (I have been for some time, maybe too long!) where I'm all-too fascinated by the concept of liaison with civilisations beyond our own.
"For example, what does it mean to find intimacy with someone from millions of light years away?"
scenestr is stoked to premiere the music video for 'Hello'. Enjoy.
The video clip filmed at Mount Coot-tha and the Brisbane Planetarium in a day, directed by Joshua Real and starring up-and-coming young actress Rebecca King.
"During the recording of the song, Nathan Woodrow (my skilful and deft producer) and I were very happy with how it sounded quite quickly.
"Double-tracking the vocals gave it the silvery texture that I think was a production masterstroke, because it really helped delineate the chorusing sense of sincerely wishing for something, almost like the image of a clutch of young birds all chirping for attention, or hoping outwards for love, not knowing how far away that salve is."
Alex Edwards plays solo at Northey Street Markets (Brisbane) 12 September (9am).
