Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Australian actor and singer, Adam Noviello is branching out as a solo artist with 'Heretic' their debut single.

A song that celebrates all gender nonconforming humans, 'Heretic' is Adam's fierce, pulsating pop-dance anthem that embraces their own gender queerness as well as redefining the mould of what a 'boy' is expected to be.

"The 'Heretic' mission is to create a moment of celebration and joy for this community," Adam says. "It is not a song to highlight trauma.

"It is a moment of spotlight. A moment for humans on the gender spectrum to take centre stage and relish in their beauty and diversity."

With a resume that has seen them star in national and international production tours including 'Matilda The Musical', 'Priscilla: Queen Of The Desert' and 'Chess The Musical', Adam has teamed with director/ videographer Sean Higgins to create a music video for 'Heretic'.

It features a cast entirely made up of people identifying as either gender non-binary, genderqueer, gender fluid or transgender that scenestr is ecstatic to premiere today. Enjoy.

Previously the singer of now defunct Melbourne indie pop band Novello, Adam also leant his vocal talents to The Chantboys 2021 track 'It's A Wonderful Life'.

"As for the recording process [of 'Heretic']," continues Adam, "it all happened very smoothly. I wrote the song during the 2020 lockdown. In fact, a lot of the tracks on my upcoming EP were written in lockdown.

"Music became a very cathartic creative outlet to help me through that hellish time. Once I got to Sydney in 2021 to hit the studio with my producer, Oscar Sharah, the song came to life.

"I've loved the song from the first lyric I wrote, right down to the final frame of the music video we shot."

Adam Noviello plays the Picnic Stage (6pm) at Midsumma Festival Carnival Day (Melbourne) on 23 January.
