Recently a finalist in the 2022 Queensland Music Awards (youth category), Queensland singer-songwriter Abi Muir explores a darker, harder edge to her music on current single 'Stockholm'.

Smouldering, intense alt-rock that has an immense, colossal-sounding sonic landscape, Muir's piercing, sultry vocals also add a feverish power to 'Stockholm' that makes it sizzle with an intoxicating maelstrom of competing emotions.

"I had just finished reading Harry Potter (for the tenth time!) and was kind of obsessed with Draco Malfoy, and wanted to write about the feeling of being trapped in love with someone you knew was a bad person and bad for you," Abi says.

Reminiscent of Evanescence, Within Temptation and Paramore, 'Stockholm' is the final single to be released from Abi's forthcoming debut EP (due 4 March) that she finished last year while completing her Year 12 studies.

With 'Stockholm' released last month, scenestr is thrilled to premiere the song's music video today. Enjoy.

"'Stockholm' is kinda a warped love song of being in a toxic relationship, and the standout lyric for me was the line 'I'd rather be fighting than lonely'," adds Abi.

"I wanted to show this conflicting feeling in the video: being trapped, the cell scene, discovering the padlock wasn't locked, and then locking it herself, choosing to stay.

"The fire in the rainforest signified the freedom we feel being out in the wild; camping, the freedom that the person in the song is craving but too frightened to chase after, if it means being on her own."
