The purveyor of dreamy electronic-folk, NT Song Of The Year finalist XAVIA returns with her newest single, 'Horizons' (released 3 August), where she invites the listener to 'breathe in' the Central Australian landscape and its ancient stories.
Produced with Unearthed award winner Resin Moon, 'Horizons' is a lush-sounding track that was inspired by XAVIA's desert home (she is originally from Adelaide), and was written using an autoharp and loop pedal.
"'Horizons' was written while climbing mountains, drinking in the views of the arresting and colourful central Australian desert, on a trip to Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon)," XAVIA says.
"As dry and harsh as the landscape appears, the old, old rocks and skies continue to inspire and nourish in such an understated way. 'Horizons' is sung in a gesture of awe and gratitude."
scenestr has the exclusive stream to premiere 'Horizons' today.
"Musically it took shape out of a beat that I created knocking on the wood of my new autoharp, using a delay and loop pedal. I workshopped the song further with Melbourne artists Phia and Georgia Fields during a mentorship with them in January.
"The song was then fully realised, using paint tins, hand claps and tape-loop beats, at the Sing Hum studio with award-winning producer Dave Crowe (aka Resin Moon)."
