Violin virtuoso as well as a dancing queen, Xani is ready to drop the second sample from her forthcoming concept album 'An Inaccurate History of Electronic Music' (that's due in early 2023).
'Michelle' was written about the character from The Beatles song of the same name viewed through a modern dating lens. "I was imagining that Michelle had met this guy on Tinder who was actually just swindling her," shares Xani."Michelle lives in Paris. He's from Liverpool. He sends her songs that he writes for her: 'Michelle, ma belle, these are words that go together well.'
"Anyway, I think he's a creep, but they're meeting up beneath the Arc de Triomphe."
A haunting, fragile violin introduces the piece before it quickly drops into a freaky, funky electronic, hip hop beat that sizzles and Xani's quirky-flavoured vocals that brighten the song's melody.
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow, scenestr is thrilled to premiere 'Michelle' today. Enjoy.
"Jan Skubiszewski produced, recorded and mixed this track at his studios out in regional Victoria," adds Xani.
"We spent two days in his studio listening to old-school hip hop and recording Stephane Grappelli-esque gypsy jazz lines. This all went into the track.
"It was such a fun few days. Jan and I would throw different ideas around the room and then expand on them together. I even decided that I wanted to put a little dog's bark in the track, so Jan was scouring the Internet looking for the perfect dog bark. I reckon he nailed it!"
Xani is also headed out on a tour throughout November and early December. "I am reacquainting myself with old friends, and introducing myself to new ones," Xani says.
"I'll be playing songs from my forthcoming album, and songs from the past. It has taken me years to get all my ducks in a row to come and see you. Now's the time to get back in the pond and frolic about."
