Formed by Julian Ferguson (Coconut Kids) and Benjamin Roberts (The Timbers), Ukulele Death Squad not only have a ripper of a name they're also oozing with musical goodness that has created a unique ukulele, rock & roll style.
First exploding onto the scene in February 2017 at Adelaide Fringe Festival, and self-described as 'the world's most dangerous ukulele show', this four-piece band are about to release their first, original song together 'Not Afraid'.
It's like Tarantino met a travelling mariachi band and injected them with the punk ethos of The Saints and added flashes of folk and flamenco. World music has never sounded this funky. Prepare to wear your shoes out on the dancefloor. Serious.
Ahead of its official release on Monday (and announcement of a national tour), Ukulele Death Squad have shared an exclusive stream of 'Not Afraid' with scenestr today. Winning days.
"'Not Afraid' is the first song we wrote together as a band," Benjamin Roberts says. "It encompasses all aspects of the group: the energy, the ferociousness and musicality of what we can deliver.
"It's a much-loved banger at live shows and was a no-brainer when coming to choosing our debut single."
