Premiere: Stream Trip To Paris' New Single 'Imposter Syndrome'

Trip To Paris
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and some beyond.

Melbourne-based rockers Trip To Paris' newest release zeroes in on that all-too familiar perspective of unworthiness and feelings of ignobleness.

Titled 'Imposter Syndrome' – a feeling that affects both accomplished professionals and common folk – the song is narrated by an internal critic, showing off the perfectionism, insecurity, and the constant questioning of one's own worth yet acknowledging that everyone's putting on a façade to survive the day-to-day struggles.

Boisterous, meaty drums are melded to a slick bassline that maintains the rhythm seamlessly, as the electric guitar rummages around with glee before settling into some scorching licks that are perfect for hair flicks.

Frontwoman-bassist Paris Bendistinto's vocals are sharp, fierce, with a pleading yet authoritative manner that ratchets up the riot grrl 'tude. It's fun, punk-pop-ish alternative rock that charges along, whipping up an energy that's hard not to immerse yourself in.

'Imposter Syndrome' sonically embodies all the feels that so many of us deal with on the daily, yet offers a cathartic release, if only for the song's fleeting 2:30-minute playtime. "'Imposter Syndrome' takes a really personal step into the internal thoughts of self-doubt and criticism," Paris says.

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow, 12 June, today scenestr is amped to premiere 'Imposter Syndrome'. Enjoy.

"We wanted the song to feel like a release, an outlet to call out those thoughts for what they really are," adds Paris, "because at the end of the day, everyone's just trying to figure it out, and that feeling of imposter syndrome is something we all face."

Paris is joined by Jordan (guitarist, backing vocalist), and Cole (drummer), the trio forging a sound birthed in 'no gimmicks, no nonsense, just honest lyrics and melodies'.

"Recording 'Imposter Syndrome' was our first experience working with Ash and Ev from The Loud Noise Estate," continues Paris. "They were instrumental in bringing our creative vision to life and shaping the track into what it is today."

Strangely, it was an iconic celebrity chef known for his fiery outbursts and aggressive etiquette that allowed Trip To Paris to zen during the recording of 'Imposter Syndrome'.

"One way we unwound during the recording process was by throwing on episodes of Gordon Ramsay's 'Kitchen Nightmares'," admits Paris. "There was something oddly perfect about completely dissociating from what we were working on to really refresh us during those long days in the studio."

The band will take their 'Imposter Syndrome' on the road for a series of urban and regional gigs throughout Victoria this winter. "Watch out, we're hitting the road with our first ever tour 🚗!"
