Premiere: Stream The Steele Syndicate's New Single 'Take It Eazy'

The Steel Syndicate
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Brisbane party funksters, The Steele Syndicate's new jam is an intoxicating groove that will bury itself deep in your dancing shoes. . . you may even experience a lil Elvis knee jerkiness – if ya lucky.

Funk-soul rhythms drizzled lavishly with big, bright disco-rock tones, 'Take It Eazy' is a sparkling, jubilant, joyous ride. This is party rock that will have your entire body moving like a caffeinated caterpillar.

A delicious brass section (sound the horns Brisbane!) that envelopes the senses like a faux-fur coat is joined by a sultry AF bassline, which is married to guitar licks and drum rolls that sound like they were lifted from Prince's The Revolution in the early '80s.

The thesis of the song is simple: take it easy. In the hustle, bustle and stress of the modern day, it's important to kick back and remember to enjoy things. As Steele sings in the chorus: "My secret is to chill and let the music flow."

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (14 March), today scenestr is stoked to premiere 'Take It Eazy'. C'mon and enjoy it.

"We started with a funk riff, leant into the disco vibes, and just let the fun take us away. Yeah it is a bit cheesy, but it goes alright," shares singer Steele McMahon.

"Strings, check. Baritone sax, check. A random octave drop vocal bridge, why not? We got it all, and I think this song really blends all those musical elements together in a way that just feels euphoric to listen to.

"Our first live performance of this tune was in the finals of the Bluesfest Busking competition [in 2024], which we went on to win! I remember playing that song as our opener on the night, and as soon as the riff kicked in, the dance floor was packed! Nothing beats that feeling.

"As part of the prize for that victory, we got to record a song at the legendary Rocking Horse Studios in Byron Bay, so it seemed only right to record the tune that won us the night.

"We had a blast at the studio, the views there are unreal! We recorded this one as 'live' as we could. All eight of us are playing at once; when you hear the track, most of what you hear was recorded simultaneously, which is a super-fun way to record, and also a great way to preserve the live, energetic feel which makes this song really tick.

"Lyrically the tune is about how music can help make bad times just a little brighter. I hope anyone who listens to it feels just a bit better about their day, and finds this tune as an excuse to take it easy, and enjoy a bit of disco fun."

A band who are no strangers to playing festivals locally, with Woodford Folk Festival, Mitchell Creek Blues Festival, Caloundra Music Festival, and Wallaby Creek Festival all on their resume (alongside many more), The Steele Syndicate will launch 'Take It Eazy' with a hometown show at Spin & Groove Records (29 March) before returning to Bluesfest (18 April). "The [Bluesfest] line-up is absolutely stacked and we are so excited to be a part of it."
