With a sound that fits snugly into the DIY, alternative rock scene of the '90s, Brisbane's The Rockefeller Frequency are ready to release their debut album, 'Chemicals'.
It's been a journey for the four-piece band, who have supported the likes of Birds Of Tokyo and Calling All Cars. The group then 'went quiet' for awhile before re-emerging in 2018."The album 'Chemicals' is something we've worked on for a few years now, with some of these songs starting out in a world that doesn't even really exist anymore, given the current political climate," vocalist Joshua Eckersley says.
"Topics that only recently seemed like satire have now become reality," he continues "and in finishing these songs, they've taken on new meaning in the shadow of what is acceptable in society, based on the actions of our elected representatives.
"In contrast, my own personal perspective was much darker when the seeds of these songs were planted, and having journeyed and grown emotionally, I've found resolution for the demons trapped in the lyrics of these songs."
Songs that had this editor's ears pricked include 'Theodore', 'Good Apples', 'The Rift' and 'I Told You I Was Hardcore' – all perfect for a full-on mosh in the pit as they are blasting out of the car stereo, the windows wound-down and the wind blowing your hair into the next suburb.
Ahead of the album's digital release (across all platforms) on Monday (16 March), scenestr is stoked to share an exclusive stream of 'Chemicals' today.
The recording process was very much a DIY affair, with the band housed in their own Basement Studios to create the album, which was also engineered and produced by the band.
"The beauty of doing it yourself," Joshua says, "is you can take your time and try some really weird sh.t, and you don't have to answer to anyone or worry about money. You just create art, go about your day, then do it again."
The Rockefeller Frequency – who are Joshua Eckersley (vocals), Jacob Mann (drums), Tim Corcoran (guitar) and Michael Russell (bass) – have a trio of local shows that commences tomorrow (14 March) at Rock Stock Riot Festival.
