Sophisticated, smooth beats, low-fi production and achingly beautiful vocals, The Letter Elle's newest single is 'Don't Have The Time x', a soulful, contemporary R&B jam about being unapologetically confident.
The moniker of musician, producer and multi-instrumentalist Gabrielle Emery, The Letter Elle – a 2020 finalist of Brisbane City Council's The QUBE Effect – wrote 'Don't Have The Time x' while at work after receiving another rejection from the music industry."I actually wrote 'Don't Have The Time x' at my old job working in a warehouse and doing admin for a sound engineering company," Gabrielle says.
"It was the day after I had received yet another of the many rejections you get in the music industry and I had a lot of frustration built up.
"I set up a fold-up table in the middle of the warehouse and a PA and started writing. . . the whole song flowed out straight away. I had the whole demo done in about three hours."
Ahead of the song's release on Friday (24 September), scenestr is thrilled to premiere 'Don't Have The Time x' today. Enjoy.
Although the idea for the track emerged from a negative event, The Letter Elle has flipped the script penning a song she wants others to use to propel themselves forward with positive energy and outlook on life.
"I hope [the song] makes my listeners feel confident and hyped up for the day. . . I want this to be a 'bad bitch' energy song for them.
"The original demo for the song was called 'Sass Queen Anthem' and, even though I gave the finished version a different name, I still feel like it perfectly sums up the energy I'm trying to give off.
"The track is a reminder to own yourself and your craft and to be confident in yourself – no matter where you are in your career and what you're doing."
