Premiere: Stream The Forresters' New Single 'Tightrope'

The Forresters are an indie rock, power pop band from Sydney.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Sydney indie outfit The Forresters newest release is 'Tightrope', a song whose alternative indie rock vibes of the late '90s, early noughties are matched by the blissful power-pop melodies that evoke The Posies.

Fronted by Anthony Bautovich, a stalwart of Sydney's underground scene (The Lonelyhearts, Orange Humble Band), the band features a string of all-star players from Australia.

The shimmering guitar work of Matt Galvin (Perry Keyes, Orange Humble Band) and keyboard playing of Cameron Bruce (Paul Kelly) are elevated by the mighty rhythm section of drummer Nick Kennedy (Imperial Broads, The Electorate) and bass player Steve Balbi (Noiseworks, Mi-Sex).

"Our upcoming single 'Tightrope' draws influence from the power-pop greats of the '60s and '70s and contemporary acts including Matthew Sweet and The Posies," Anthony says.

"'Tightrope' combines sublime harmonies and jangling guitars with a driving rock & roll undercurrent. The Forresters' songs are honest and immediate; more times than not, landing straight on the heart."

Ahead of the song's release on Friday (20 August), scenestr is stoked to premiere 'Tightrope' today. Enjoy.

'Tightrope' will feature on The Forresters forthcoming album 'Something To Give' (due 1 October), which was recorded by ARIA Award-winning producer Wayne Connolly (Boy & Bear, Cloud Control, Josh Pyke) with additional recording and mastering by Michael Carpenter.

The album was mixed by US indie legend Mitch Easter (REM, The Go-Betweens) at his Fidelitorium studio in North Carolina.

"My long-time association with Mitch is embedded in the sound of this track. The melodious components of 'Tightrope' are carried throughout the album, creating a body of work that is both fresh and timeless," Anthony says.

The record also features a line-up of guest appearances including Peter Kelly (Orange Humble Band, The Gadflys) on trumpet, Jess Ciampa (Nature Strip, Bernie Hayes) on percussion, Nashville based Emma Swift on backing vocals and Charlie Owen (Tendrils, Beasts Of Bourbon) on electric guitar.

"The Forresters are always exploring new ways to develop the melodic elements of our tunes and enhance our full and rich sound."
