Premiere: Stream SweetLipp's New Single 'Carol'

SweetLipp are an indie rock band from South East Queensland.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

An indie rock band whose members reside in different parts of South East Queensland, SweetLipp return with their first new music in almost two years.

'Carol' features rolling, swaying indie rock tones that waltz along with confident instrumentation which builds a bluesy music hall feel perfect for a rowdy sing-along.

'Carol' vibes like an instant Arctic Monkeys hit with the R&B-flavoured rock & roll pedigree of Chuck Berry (the song pays homage to Berry's track of the same title), Carl Perkins, and Little Richard.

There are also swirls of psych-inflicted grooves and the cheeky charm of a surf-rock melody that combine for a riotous ride of rock & roll.

"This was the first songwriting experience where it felt like everything just fell into place and there was no second guessing," lead vocalist-guitarist Hayden says.

"It's probably one of our favourites to play live; also, it's just one of those ones we can just vibe anytime and smash it out."

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (2 March), scenestr is thrilled to premiere 'Carol' today. Enjoy.

Originally written together as a band then finished at local cafe over a cup of coffee, 'Carol' is about the desire one feels when 'a girl commands the attention of the whole room with their style and grace'.

"I was messing around with the chords and riff for ages," Hayden says. "When we started jamming it as a band it sounded fun and full of life, but only had incoherent mumbling for vocals.

"Finally, I was sitting having a cup of coffee at a local cafe and the lyrics all came to me at once; wrote it start to finish there and then."
