A young pop-folk singer-songwriter from Melbourne, Sophia Petro draws inspiration from the likes of Taylor Swift, Gretta Ray and Maisie Peters.
Since she was 11 years old, Sophia has been writing her own compositions with her original work shortlisted in the International Songwriting Competition.Quaint, heartfelt vocals that add depth to her writing depicting moments and experiences from her own romantic and platonic relationships, Sophia's debut single is titled 'Memory Of You'.
A fragile piano loops over Sophia's earnest yet richly emotive vocals that communicate a story about someone living in a high rise by themselves who's 'plagued by heartache'.
After the intro, the song switches into feel-good girly pop with flourishes of folk tones as the dreamy guitar and lush yet poppin' drums add an indie vibe that builds throughout, before Sophia returns to her singer-songwriter roots with her vocals becoming more vulnerable as she states her desire to find love.
"I wrote this song during a songwriting course where the theme for this particular week was 'high rise'," begins Sophia.
"I envisioned how lonely it would be to live by oneself so far above the city and how this would be exacerbated if you were plagued by heartbreak.
"I thought of all the sacrifices and compromises we make to accommodate relationships. We try so hard to keep them alive when they are dying. We uproot our lives in hopes that this love will be final."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (23 February), scenestr is thrilled to premiere 'Memory Of You' today. Enjoy.
