Sydney indie artist Sam Marks newest single is the alluringly melodic 'Wash Over Me', an ode to those who can feel disattached from reality at times.
Laid over a bed of indie folk-rock, the track also serenely twists and turns through alt country and bluesy '80s AM radio rock tones. The song is highlighted by searing, scorching guitar lines, velvety drumming that still packs a punch, and unhurried, hazy vocals overflowing with passionate intensity as well as dripping in a certain vague desolation.
"This song was a challenging one to write and to release," admits Sam. "I've tried to express a familiar aspect of my relationship with reality.
"Without giving away too much, I often feel like reality washes over me. I've tried to use lyrics and metaphor to evoke a feeling and mood that relates to my experience."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow, scenestr is thrilled to premiere 'Wash Over Me' today. Enjoy.
"I hope that people can respond in their own way to the song and draw their own meaning from it," adds Marks. "The song certainly doesn't have a linear story to it and is open to interpretation.
"It's also a little bit of a departure from my previous songs in terms of sound and style, but I really love exploring new territory and finding new ways to write."
Sam makes his debut festival appearance at Sun Sets Festival at Rat Park (Sydney) 3 December.
