Brisbane soul chanteuse Rosa Mack is fire on her debut single, 'When I'm Alone'.

The powerhouse vocalist, who is a member of Menajerie (a Brisbane neo-soul outfit who recently released their debut EP), has crafted a spell-binding number doused in smokey-blues soul and dusty, alt-country flavoured big-band rock.

A song that explores the intricacies of relationships and whether solitude is a better predicament in some situations, warm yet gritty tones are matched to a golden, gorgeous melody and Rosa's sublime, angelic vocals.

The meandering, languid drum fills are matched by a soothing organ and full-bodied bass, then the horns enter the equation as well as a burning electric blues guitar riff mid-song.

All the parts congeal by the song's end for a joyous, magnificent wall of sound that propels Mack's vocals to the fore, a song of liberation for those who embrace the positive power of aloneness.

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (17 November), scenestr is joyous to premiere 'When I'm Alone' today.

"The song itself was born after a conversation between fellow songwriter, James Pryce Davies, and I back in early 2020," begins Rosa.

"We had compared past experiences of relief, letting go of tumultuous relationships which had brought more heaviness than joy to our respective lives.

"The contrast of liberation in aloneness compared to the sense of feeling caged within those relationships, struck a poetic chord as we distinguished the difference between 'loneliness' and 'aloneness'."

Backed by her seven-piece soul and blues collective, Rosa Mack will launch 'When I'm Alone' at Stranded Bar (Brisbane) 23 November.

"While recording the vocals, it took a few neat whiskeys to warm up to the big notes after the final chorus," adds Rosa, sharing an insight into the recording sessions.

"I was so excited and exhausted that there wasn't a single take without manic laughter trailing off at the end, so we decided to keep in a few giggles to honour the moment and sentiment of relief to the song's meaning."
