A quickly emerging voice in Australia's electro-pop stocks, Melbourne's own POLLY is quickly garnering plenty of attention.
With only three previous single releases on her resume, POLLY – who can play piano and guitar alongside her seductive vocals – has already gathered an all-star production team.POLLY is working with world-class talent like producer Liam Quinn (Ruel, Peach PRC), Brent Kolatalo (19 Grammy nominations), renowned producer Ben Oldland, and mastering engineer Chris Gehringer (Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, Tove Lo, Tones And I), to perfect her craft of luxe tunes.
POLLY's newest release is the neon-coloured EDM cocktail 'Better'. Euphoric electro-house with a tropical rhythm and a sensual, glittering beat that'll have you moving in a hypnotic trance, POLLY's tantalising vocals are infused with warped AutoTune moments that hark back to Cher's 'Believe'.
Although it's upbeat and catchy AF, POLLY sings about being lovelorn, wishing she could reconnect with her lover, who has moved on with a new flame. 'You replaced my body / With somebody.'
By the time the chorus hits POLLY's hope of reconnection is still flickering. 'How do we make it look like the magazines / How do we make it, make it better? / Can we make it, make it better?'
"I have such a soft spot for electronic music and wanted to create something within that realm," shares Polly. "I feel like that genre is having such a moment the last few years and I'm obsessed.
"'Better' was one of those songs that just fell into place in the studio within a couple of hours."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (23 May), scenestr is ecstatic to premiere 'Better' today. Enjoy.
'Better' comes from that deeply ingrained human urge to compare, wanting life and everything in it to be just like the movies and magazines. "I've always compared my life to others. I find it really hard to not feel behind or not good enough, especially when it comes to the relationships in my life," POLLY says.
"I think we all compare without even realising it? Something deeply ingrained within us. I guess this song came from a place of comparison – wanting my life and everything in it to be just like the movies and magazines."
This is just a sample of what's to come, with POLLY's upcoming debut EP 'Daddy Issues' dropping in July. "Writing these songs was like giving little me a big hug, telling her it's going to be okay.
"It was cathartic and heartbreaking and releasing it is terrifying. I'm so excited to share this vulnerable piece of me with people and for them to take away from the songs whatever they need to right now."
