Premiere: Stream Poetic Chaos' New Single 'Watered Down'

Poetic Chaos are an indie folk duo based in Far North Queensland.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A track written about overcoming social anxiety by being yourself, Far North Queensland-based duo Poetic Chaos delve into their own fears to create a restorative anthem for others to embrace.

An unpretentiously bright roots-folk-pop melody is married to a quirky, rolling rhythm section that serenely builds with shimmery bass notes and dusty yet meditative drumming.

Then there's the hypnotic vocals (which were recorded in staircase and layered to create an echo effect) that draw you in with an enticingly breezy, care-free attitude as the lyrics implore the listener to let go of 'fitting in' to be accepted.

"Wouldn't it be nice if we could be ourselves with everyone?" asks Poetic Chaos. "Going into a crowd can feel overwhelming.

"On the night that we wrote this we had gone out and had a hard time fitting in. We didn't have a good time, couldn't enjoy ourselves and couldn't wait to go back home to our safe space.

"We live together, so when we got home all that noise and anxiety left. A conversation started about how we wish we could just be ourselves with everyone.

"This song, 'Watered Down', reminds us to let go of those fears and come back to ourselves."

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (9 March), scenestr is thrilled to premiere 'Watered Down' today. Enjoy.

The pairing of Australian Jade Schuck and Argentinian Clara Satzke, Poetic Chaos 'was created from a place of openness and creativity, in the search for understanding the conflicting feelings that come with being in your 20s and not knowing what's next'.

Poetic Chaos play The Elixir Music House (Cairns) 10 March.
