The solo project of South Australian multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Simon Hatch, Nosila is a pop-folk artist who has spent the previous four years building a sonic foundation as Simon's personal and creative journeys aligned.
With influences ranging from Guns 'N Roses, U2 and Jeff Buckley, Nosila's original compositions have already been streamed 100,000 times. On 'Halfway', textured, spirited guitar strumming is melded to clear, stirring vocals that slice straight to your heart with an emotive touch fans of José González and John Mayer will find enjoyment listening to.
The song's tempo bursts with a flourish of rootsy, pop-rock tones that bound along with unbridled enthusiasm for the remainder of the track.
"I've always written fairly sad/ melancholy music and this track was the first time I made a concise effort to write something more uplifting," Nosila says.
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (13 September), today scenestr is thrilled to premiere 'Halfway'. Enjoy.
'Halfway' was mixed by Stefan Du Randt (Mac Miller, Thelma Plum) and mastered by Andrew Edgson (5 Seconds Of Summer, Matt Corby). "The title 'Halfway' somewhat speaks for itself," Simon says.
"The song really has a dual meaning, from meeting and creating new relationships in undiscovered places (the halfway) as well as making compromises in relationships."
For Simon, the Nosila project is deeply personal, created in memory of his sister Alison. Through passionate lyrics and evocative arrangements, Nosila navigates emotional complexities to offer support to those struggling with mental health issues.
This connection to his sister is central to the project. "I think for the most part, I write about what I think she felt and thought about, and how those thoughts and feelings somehow migrated over and on to me," Simon divulges.
