Munro Melano is a film composer, singer, pianist, and songwriter living in Melbourne.
The last four years he has spent balancing a life as a social worker (day job, composing for film (night job) and working as a session musician (weekends).
Oh, and he's also been chipping away at his own music releasing two independent EPs, 'Running Round' and 'Blue Veins'.
Now Munro is nearing the release of his self-titled debut album. "When you're writing music for other people while also holding on to a day job, your own album is always the thing that gets pushed to the side," Munro says.
"It was frustrating not having the time to finish it, but it's been amazing to see how my relationship to the music has changed over the long stretches of time between writing, recording, and getting the album out there."
The second single to be lifted from his album, 'Cannonballs', is scheduled for release tomorrow (18 October).
It is a beautiful ballad with Munro's vocals adding an eerily haunting quality that prickles the skin, with a soaring rhythm section that pounds your eardrums with confidence.
scenestr is pumped to be present you an exclusive stream of 'Cannonballs' today. Enjoy.
"The longer I stay in music," continues Munro, "the more amazed I can be at the journey that a song can take to be finished. Sometimes songs rush out of you. But in the case of ['Cannonballs'], it took years and years of fermenting for it to change and reveal itself.
"This song actually began when I was travelling overseas by myself for the first time in my early 20s. It was long before I had my first smartphone, and I would carry a biro and notepad to write down lyrics as they came to me.
"I used to put a lot of emphasis on making sure I would have time walking alone, or catching public transport - letting my brain go where it needed to go. This chorus was written on one of these solo missions, and then sat in a notepad for years.
"It's a remarkable thing, the time it can take to build a song, lines here and there, melodies thrown out and new ones emerge. Then the band comes together and adds something else.
"It wasn't until this year as we were putting the finishing touches of the four-piece brass section in the studio, that I knew that this song had finally found [its] home."
'Cannonballs' is taken from Munro Melano's self-titled debut album scheduled for release 7 November.
