The first piece of new music she has released this year, Medley, the moniker of Melbourne songwriter and performer Cleo Howman, returns with 'Everybody's Everything', a luscious serving of dark, indie pop.
With a beginning that hints at a Lana Del Rey ballad, Medley's lush vocals soon have your ears in a trance, your head nodding to the sassiness oozing out of lyrics that focus on broken relationships and a fierce future."'Everybody's Everything' is about a relationship that I was trapped in for some time, that made me feel like I was never enough," begins Medley.
"I found myself trying so hard to live up to this person's expectation of me, but always failing and eventually realised that I had to break free of their mental hold and exorcise that experience into a song so I could move on."
Ahead of the song's release on Friday (28 February), scenestr is stoked to offer you an exclusive stream of 'Everybody's Everything'. Enjoy.
Working with Fight Night Records on 'Everybody's Everything' in Abbotsford and bringing the song to life in the company of Harley and Del Stewart, and Paul Blakey (12th Vine and Post), the process behind the single was the first time Medley struck out into a different lane.
"Fight Night Records is a lawless inner city haven for making dynamite records," Medley says.
"I started working out of Fight Night at the beginning of 2019 and it's my second home, my safe space. If there was a zombie apocalypse, I would run to the attic of Fight Night and watch the end of the world."
Medley will launch 'Everybody's Everything' with a run of Melbourne shows, with 2020 looking to be a big one for Cleo Howman.
