Adelaide-based musician and producer, MATIAH returns in 2022 with her first single of the year, the evocative, ethereal-sounding electro-pop of 'Without You'.
A song MATIAH originally wrote five years ago, 'Without You' follows her 2021 singles 'Toxic' and 'Haunt Me', and finds MATIAH expanding her own sonic palette.With a back catalogue that includes two EPs (2017's 'Watch The Stars' and 2020's 'Ember'), MATIAH builds on her alternative pop, vivid harmonies and powerful vocals adding an EDM element to 'Without You'.
"All my songs begin on the piano, where I figure out melody and chord progressions, and then I'll go into my producing session and see where the track goes," MATIAH says.
"I don't like to limit myself genre wise when producing and recording, but I knew from the start I wanted a big, EDM sound for this one to represent the powerful energy I've embodied.
"It's a little different from my usual style of track, but I always love to keep my signature harmonies and orchestral elements within the production."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (18 March), scenestr is thrilled to premiere 'Without You' today. Enjoy.
"'Without You' is a track I wrote a few years ago, but it was never the right time to release it," adds MATIAH, who has been writing and recording her own music from a young age, as well as producing music for a number of local artists.
"Since then, I've had to overcome some very personal battles and once I came out the other side, I knew this song was ready to be heard. It's about healing from the past and starting a brand-new chapter.
"I can't wait for people to hear this one as it's a true representation of how my sound is always evolving and also what's to come."
