Brisbane indie-pop artist Lucy Korts is embracing emotional hurt to foster a mantra to overcome your struggles with her newest single 'Stronger'.

A winner of two QUBE Effect Awards (Best Original Song and Best Performance), Korts has shared the stage with the likes of The Temper Trap, The Paper Kites, and Alex Lahey.

A vibrantly clear voice emanates from within a punchy, pulsating drum-heavy beat, the near-breathless vocals adding a feeling of vulnerability that also echoes an inner resolve to maintain a resilient spirit, the fierceness layered over a piano-laced rhythm that continually builds in presence.

The song's electronic landscape eventually bursts into an electro-pop cleansing release of energy, Lucy singing about the internal power of 'trusting yourself'.

The driving beat continues to propel the song forward, before a vocal breakdown offering excuses to take them back provides the synergy to turn 'Stronger' into an anthem to embrace the hurt while not looking back.

"When I wrote 'Stronger', I needed an anthem for myself," admits Lucy. "Now that it's real, I hope it can be that same anthem for everybody else. I wanted to create a song that had space to feel angry and hurt, without losing the strength of rising above those feelings."

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (31 January), today scenestr is delighted to premiere 'Stronger'. Enjoy.

"I think that 'trusting yourself' is a key message to take away from this track," adds Korts. "You have everything that you need inside of you right now to overcome whatever it is that's weighing on you. So trust that you're stronger than whatever it is that's making you feel like you're not."

'Stronger' is also the first song Lucy has created with the assistance of other musicians, rather than using a 'found' organic sound from her phone to manipulate the track into shape.

"Up until now, all of my tracks have been 'put together' using organic audio samples. For anyone reading this who doesn't really know what I mean, it's basically where I take my phone out and record any sound that I think is cool. It can then be manipulated to fit into a track.

"This is the first pop track I have created where we actually got other real humans to come into the studio and record. Having Libby Scott on drums and Astrid Jorgensen on keys was such a cool experience for me. Not just because of their talent, but because of how fun it was to collaborate other people's ideas into the track."

With an upcoming Brisbane show (at Black Bear Lodge on 6 February), if Lucy's merch gives you those LOL feels, she has backstory to share.

"My producer and I were discussing design ideas for merch during one of our studio sessions, and we thought it would be funny to see what AI came up with. It was hilarious because the AI couldn't comprehend the request and just gave us a bunch of terrifying images. I remember crying from laughter."

Newfound fans should also stick around for the 'Stronger' music video that will land in the coming days; if only to see Lucy falling over and over again!

"During one of the shoot days for the music video, a motorcycle club parked at the top of the mountain we were shooting at. I had to dance and lip sync in-front of 15-plus adults while simultaneously continuing to fall over because the grass was so wet.

"It's probably my favourite memory, because I was having so much fun dancing to the track that I didn't really mind."
