Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

After releasing her debut single 'Just Fine' early 2024, Lucinda Poy's sophomore release is the fantastic 'Selling Out' – a track that belies her relative inexperience, showcasing an emerging talent in the works.

Currently based in Perth, having moved west from Brisbane to study music, Lucinda has collaborated with WA producer Dylan Ollivierre (The Money War, Joan & The Giants) on 'Selling Out', a song inspired by working long hours in the hospitality industry.

Bruised, atmospheric guitar with a backdrop of gloomy rain intros the song, the richness of emotion cemented by Lucinda's impassioned vocals that despite sounding dreary offer a vulnerability that resonates as she contemplates life choices.

Then the shimmering, vibrant drums kick in, the rhythm becoming buoyant, Lucinda sounding more hopeful yet the melancholy hangs heavy over the song; the intensity continues to build, finally crescendoing in a cathartic release of cynical emotions offering respite from the endless critiquing of individual decisions of our modern world.

"I remember the feeling of walking out onto the main street after a late night shift," offers Lucinda, detailing the song's birth.

"It's empty, strewn with rubbish, and you would be the only person there. Feeling like you're stuck in the same job, in the same place, while everyone moves on with their lives. I felt that I was selling myself short with the decisions I made."

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (8 November), today scenestr is delighted to premiere 'Selling Out' today. Enjoy.

"My first release, 'Just Fine' is all about 'faking it till you make it', and picking yourself up when people let you down," adds Poy. "'Selling Out' is quite the opposite.

"It's about the frustration towards the feeling of getting nowhere, with your jobs, dreams and relationships with people. It's a song written on a rainy day when you've considered giving up on everything, but I still wanted to make a song that would make you feel moved and angry."
