Somewhere between the growl of PJ Harvey and simmering tension of The Velvet Underground sits Melbourne songwriter Little Wise with her return single 'Want It All', the first sample of her upcoming sophomore record.
The song, as the press release states, 'is a meditation on growing up, indecision, crises of existence' as Little Wise looks to the future still with a firm clasp on the short-term past.
"This song is about the not uncommon feelings of someone in their mid to late 20s, standing on the verge of adult responsibilities," Little Wise says.
"I wrote it about not wanting to let go of the unfettered joy of youth, but also being ready for a different kind of freedom that comes with adulthood."
Ahead of the song's official release tomorrow (24 August), Little Wise has shared an exclusive stream of 'Want It All' with scenestr today. Enjoy.
The track itself underwent a transformation from its original version as Little Wise explains. "Before we recorded the song we had been playing it live for some months in quite a different incarnation. I really loved reworking the song in the studio and breathing a whole, new life into it.
"We changed the key so I'm singing right to the end points of either side of my vocal range, which brings a quality of desperation to it. We also slowed the tempo right down, brining a Velvet Underground vibe."
